Re-building Kismayo aftermath Al-Shabaab

 








Kismaayo Town                                                                                        

Kismayo Town is located in Lower Jubba region in southren Somalia about 500 km south west Mogadishu. Lower Jubba is strategically and economically important for Somalia, it has vast costal and land frontier with Kenya and it has long  river, huge agricultural land, animal husbundery, port and airport facilities.

Since 1991, during the civil war in the country, Kismayo was a battle ground and almost every function or militant groups in southren Somalia tried to control the town. in 2008 Islamist militnat Al-shabaab captured Kismayo and ruled up until September 2012 when AU troopes and Somali National Army re-captured the town from Al-shabaab fighters.


Kismaayo Port

Kismayo Port is about 3 miles deep inside Indian Ocean, south east side of the town. Before the civil war, the port was very busy and extremely important hub for business movement from Kenya, Gulf countries, India, China, Brazil and Europe.



Kismaayo Airport

Kismayo Airport is about 5 miles south of the town, it links the town locally to all other Somali cities, regionally and  internationally.

Our Vision

The town and its institutions were almost completely destroyed in the past 22 years during the civil war in the country. Our Vision is to re-build Kismayo and its institutions, to mobilize Somali and International community to contribute and help rebuild the town. We aim to link local institutions such as local authorities, schools, universities and NGOs with international institutions to provide necessary advice and guidance to run the town and strength peace process.
